Hello friends. Let me spin you a tale about a birthday surprise that soared to new heights, quite literally.

It all started with my wife Sonya’s now past birthday and the great gift she received.

Now let me explain, Sonya is not exactly what you’d call a thrill-seeker when it comes to heights. That’s because she’s downright terrified of heights. But her best friend, Helen, and Helen’s husband, Bruce, who knew of her fear, had something special planned for her special day.

You see, Helen and Bruce are the kind of friends who believe in pushing boundaries and making memories that last a lifetime. So, when they viewed parasailing over Lake Taupo, they knew it would be the perfect birthday present for Sonya. Hell yes!

Now, let me set the scene for you. Lake Taupo is nestled in the heart of New Zealand’s North Island and is a breathtakingly beautiful spot known for its crystal-clear waters and stunning scenery. It’s the kind of place that beckons you to explore and experience all it has to offer on and off the water. It’s a place for adventurers.

On the big day of the event, the weather conditions couldn’t have been better for Helen and Sonya as they set off for their parasailing adventure, nerves buzzing with excitement.

As they readied themselves, family, friends, and I boarded Vicky and Craig’s launch, ready to cheer them on from below. The sun was hiding behind an overcast sky with a gentle breeze, and the lake was alive with activity as we headed out on the water. It was the perfect day for viewing a bit of high-flying fun.

As we watched from below, they soared high above the lake, Helen reassured Sonya every step of the way, their laughter echoing across the water, not! You could sense the nervous tension.

The driver of the parasail boat treated us to a show-stopping flyover, skimming just a few metres above the water’s surface. And then, to our pleaser, on their return, he dipped them into the water, sending us all into fits of laughter.

But the best part? Seeing the joy on Sonya’s face as she conquered her fear and embraced the thrill of the moment. It was a sight to behold and one that l will never forget. Nor will she, I am sure.

So, here’s to Sonya, Helen, and Bruce, and to the incredible birthday surprise that took our breath away. May we all find the courage to spread our wings and soar, no matter how high the stakes may be.
