Catalyst of this collection

On Tuesday 22nd of February 2011. Christchurch City’s landscape changed forever when a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck. Sadly 185 lives were taken that day, and many historical and iconic buildings were destroyed.

Then on the 14th of November 2016, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Kaikoura at 2:56 am lasting approximately two minutes. That quake was so strong, that it saw the demolition of some of Wellington City’s buildings, with many more buildings requiring earthquake strengthening or face demolition.

After seeing the destruction these quakes had delivered to our beautiful, iconic buildings, I felt a need to photograph some of the remaining historical and iconic buildings still standing in my home city.

My vision for the series is to show the individual beauty and character of the building in the same way you would a human portrait. Each building has its unique footprint on the landscape but is overwhelmed by the surrounding environmental noise the likes of cars, tram lines, people, and surrounding buildings.
In this series, I present them on their stage to project their beauty and mana.
